Connie Basham
The Lugar Series opened numerous doors for me and prepared me well for elected office. In '96, I was elected to my first term on the Tippecanoe County Council and have benefited greatly from the leadership techniques shared by Lugar Series speakers and fellow Series participants. I encourage all Republican women to consider applying for acceptance into this outstanding program."

The program year comprises eight monthly day-long sessions starting in October. In May, the series culminates with a four-day summit in Washington, D.C. The intensive training curriculum addresses, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  • History of the Republican Party
  • Formation of Public Policy and Ethics in Government
  • The Constitution as the Basis for Government
  • Understanding Local, State and Federal Government
  • Running a Successful Campaign
  • Fundraising
  • Public Speaking Training
  • The Role of Media in Politics
  • National Security and the Military

Participants learn from experts and hands-on activities and have the opportunity to network with key Republican leaders at the local, state and national levels.
